Reacting to the Eagles’ new Jackson additions

The Kist & Solak Show #84!

The Philadelphia Eagles had a speed need at wide receiver. The Philadelphia Eagles had a need at defensive tackle. Howie Roseman acted swiftly in alleviating both. Neither move impacts the compensatory pick formula negatively. Both moves make the team better.

Desean Jackson’s return bolsters a group that still has a decision looming. Nelson Agholor’s option becomes fully guaranteed on March 13th. If the Eagles’ wanted to get him off the books, this move ensures another full-on “Weapons For Wentz” overhaul wouldn’t be necessary. Not only that, but his route tree success rates match up well with Carson Wentz’s best throws:

Teams will have to respect Jackson’s deep speed, as the Eagles found out in Week 2 on his 75-yard touchdown. There’s also Alshon Jeffery who began demanding cone bracket coverage on the backside of trip formations. Simply put, the Eagles will enter the season more dangerous than in 2018.

Adding to the haul of the day was the acquisition of former Jacksonville Jaguars’ defensive tackle Malik Jackson. This allows the Eagles’ to not feel the need to reach for a defensive tackle in the 2019 NFL Draft and also adds a darn good, productive player. The price of a 3-year, $30M deal isn’t bad either considering that’s roughly what they were planning to pay Timmy Jernigan anyway.

We talk about the impact of Desean and Malik on The Kist & Solak Show #84! We also dig into the details of Jason Peters’ contract and say goodbye to Stefen Wisniewski. And of course we react to Nick Foles securing the bag from the Jaguars.
