REPORT: Eric Weddle signing with Rams

The Rams are set to kick-off free agency as one of the real players in the Eric Weddle sweepstakes.

With starting free safety Lamarcus Joyner slated to hit free agency in three days, the Los Angeles Rams have become a real player in the Eric Weddle sweepstakes:

Weddle is a 34-year old who was just recently released by the Baltimore Ravens. Weddle has always been a highly productive player in his career, though the Ravens chose to go younger and cheaper at the safety position. The Rams have a hole at safety with Joyner all-but-gone at this point, so it makes sense for them to target a mistake-free veteran option who’s likely looking to acquire a Super Bowl ring prior to retirement.

Weddle registered 68 tackles, one sack, three pass deflections, three tackles-for-loss, and three quarterback hits in 2018 with the Ravens. Just yesterday I wrote a piece about how Weddle could be a player the Rams are interested in, so this comes as no surprise. The major win for the Rams (if they do sign Weddle) is that he won’t affect the compensatory pick formula as he was cut, and they could possibly receive a compensatory draft pick for losing Joyner.

The Rams currently have $35m in cap space, per Spotrac.

It’s happening.
