The Jets are not going to offer a tender to restricted free agent tight end Clive Walford according to Mike Florio.
Per a league source, the Jets won’t be extending a restricted free agency tender to the tight end who originally was drafted by the Raiders in 2015.
The Jets can offer potential restricted free agents a one year contract (tender). If offered the tender, the player can seek offers from other teams, but the Jets have the right to match the offer and retain the player.
For many people the most newsworthy part of this report is that Walford is on the Jets. A lot of people probably didn’t realize that. You might remember the Jets claiming him off waivers from Oakland last offseason and then cutting him at the end of training camp. You might have missed the team signing Walford just before the Week 17 against New England after Eric Tomlinson was placed on IR. Between his two Jets stints in 2018, Walford also spent time with the Colts.
Walford will become an unrestricted free agent as the the result of the Jets not extending a tender.
