The Rams have opened up a hole at center that could be filled by a 2018 rookie.
With free agency literally days away, the Los Angeles Rams have decided to not exercise starting center John Sullivan’s option, which means Sully is now slated to become a free agent:
This is interesting: The #Rams did not exercise veteran center John Sullivan’s 2019 option, sources say. He's 33 but hasn’t missed a start the past two seasons. One of NFL’s smartest guys up front, now about to hit the market.

Sullivan was added as a free agent in 2017 along with Head Coach Sean McVay and was immediately thrust into the starting lineup as the center. Over the past two seasons, Sully has started 31 games with the one missed start being Week 17 in 2017 against the San Francisco 49ers when the Rams decided to bench all their starters out of caution ahead of the playoffs.
Cutting Sullivan opens up $5.25m in cap space for the Rams, though they do eat a $1m cap penalty for letting him walk.
The most logical current replacement on the roster is fourth-round pick Brian Allen from Michigan St. Allen didn’t receive any real playing time in 2018, though he did impress in a small sample size in the preseason.
The Rams’ shakeup along the OL could loom large as LG Rodger Saffold is also slated to be a free agent and is reportedly unlikely to re-sign with the Rams.
Per Over The Cap, the Rams should have around $27.5m (rough estimate) in cap space currently.
