NFL combine 2019: Shopping players on fifth-year option a growing trend, plus more insider notes - CBS Sports
Which brings us to the present for those first-round picks from the 2015 draft. And a group of good – but not great – players set to earn upwards of $10M in 2019. And now teams are looking to see what they can get to move those contracts elsewhere, rather than pay that compensation themselves for a player they do not intend to extend and would surely lose as free agents in 2020, anyway. The Vikings are trying to get something for Trae Waynes (11th overall) rather than pay him $9M for one more season, and league sources believe the Eagles would include Nelson Agholor (20th overall) and his $9M should they engage in trade talks for veteran players, for instance, continuing a trend for this draft class that began, really, before last season.
7 thoughts on what Brandon Graham’s contract extension means for the Eagles - BGN
It’s so awesome that we won’t have to see Brandon Lee Graham leave Philly this offseason. That would’ve been so sad. Graham will forever be an Eagles legend for making THE biggest play in franchise history by strip-sacking Tom Brady in Super Bowl LII. I can’t stress enough how life-changing that play was. We all knew Brady was going to lead a comeback when the Patriots got the ball late in the fourth quarter. We had already seen that story countless times before. But nope! Graham slayed the seemingly invincible dragon. And he made us lose our minds in the process. I’ll never forget the sheer, uncontrollable joy I experienced when that fumble happened. I’m typically a pretty stoic person but that play had me yelling and screaming “OH MY GOD!” over and over. Even putting that play aside, which is hard to do, Graham is just a great guy to have on the team. He brings a real positive energy to the locker room and he’s a valuable veteran leader. It’s easy to be happy that he’s potentially going to finish his career with the Eagles.
Looking to the Future - BGN Radio

The Philadelphia Eagles agree to terms with Brandon Graham, one of the most consistent pass rushers of his generation - PFF
Throughout his career, Graham has been one of the league’s best at winning his matchups, and his ability to win those blocks and disrupt the play is no doubt one of the reasons why the Eagles wanted to keep him in the building. Including the postseason, Graham has won a staggering 18.6% of his matchups since 2010, which is not only good, it’s the second-best rate of the PFF era among edge defenders with at least 2000 pass-rushing matchups — and second to Von Miller is never a bad place to be. And the best things about him? Graham not only appears to be getting better with age, but he’s keeping up with the very best players at the position. Since 2014, Graham is one of only four edge defenders who has tallied 50 total pressures in each season, with Von Miller, Khalil Mack, and Ryan Kerrigan being the others; while his 53 pressures in 2014 ranked 21st at the position, his 58 pressures in 2015 ranked 17th, his 83 pressures in 2016 ranked third, his 60 total pressures in 2017 ranked 19th, and his 70 total pressures in 2018 ranked fourth.
Why do analysts keeping giving the Eagles cornerbacks in mock drafts? - PhillyVoice
Could the Eagles take a corner in the first round of this draft? Sure. If he’s legitimately the best player available on their board, then they should go right ahead and take him. However, in a draft class that is thought to be weak at corner and “historic” along the defensive line, that scenario feels very unlikely.
Howie Roseman: Brandon Graham ‘is a legend’ - PE.com
”He fits us on and off the field. He’s the kind of player and person that you want to invest in,” Roseman told Rich Eisen and Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network during live coverage of the event. “All of us, just talking to him this morning about how excited he was to be back in Philadelphia. And, really, when you talk about it, he’s a legend. He’s a legend in Philadelphia.”
Grading the Eagles’ offseason moves: Brandon Graham returns on 3-year deal - The Athletic
Kapadia: There are a lot of layers to this move, but ultimately Graham is an effective player at a premium position who fits from a culture perspective. One factor of free agency that scares NFL decision-makers is they can never know how a new player’s personality is going to impact the locker room. With Graham, that’s not a question. He’s proven to be a great teammate and a leader. But there are also reasons why this move isn’t a complete home run. Graham turns 31 in April, and he had a down year last season. He produced a sack or QB hit on just 4.31 percent of his pass-rush opportunities. The Eagles made a bet that Graham was going to get a nice deal if he hit free agency. And that seems like a reasonable stance to take, given that many of the top pass rushers are likely going to be franchise tagged. Graham was coming off of an ankle injury last year and never looked quite like himself. But pass rushers can be effective into their 30s so 2018 doesn’t necessarily signal a decline. The Eagles’ defense is built on getting pressure from its front four. They now go into next year with Graham, Fletcher Cox and Derek Barnett. They have decisions to make on Bennett and Long.
Brandon Graham explains why he returned to the Eagles - NBCSP
“Honestly, me and my family, we just love our situation here in Philly and for me I’ve done well with what I’ve been given already and saving my money so I wasn’t that far off from where I wanted to be with the Eagles and we end up making it work,” Graham said. “I know that for me we built something here and I wanted to finish it out if, it made sense, and it ended up making sense … Could make good money somewhere else, but I want it to be a good fit schematically (and) Philly checks off all the boxes. I think for me it was a no-brainer.”
Eagles’ combine checklist: Search for difference-making running back - ESPN
Dion Lewis is the biggest hit, though the bulk of his NFL production came mostly after he was traded by Philly to the Cleveland Browns in 2013. As you can see, all of these backs were selected in the fourth round or later. It’s not all that surprising the success rate is not super high. Roseman said that they are not going to force it at any position because of a perceived need. And they shouldn’t. But this is a year in which the stars might align to pluck a difference-making running back. A search for the right fit continues this weekend.
Earl Thomas could be out of Cowboys’ price range - PFT
The Cowboys also will have to make Dak Prescott one of the highest-paid quarterbacks, Ezekiel Elliott one of the highest-paid running backs, Amari Cooper one of the highest-paid receivers and Byron Jones one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the near term to keep them long term. So they are higher priorities than any free agents on the open market. In the past six offseasons, the Cowboys have stayed out of the big-name, big-money free agent market. Cornerback Brandon Carr was the last free agent from another team the Cowboys committed huge money, signing him to a five-year, $50.1 million deal in 2012. Since then, the Cowboys have built through the draft and have done a good job at it. So Thomas likely finds a better deal elsewhere, with the Cowboys looking elsewhere to shore up the position.
Report: Giants discussing Olivier Vernon trade - Big Blue View
Vernon has been a polarizing player for the Giants since he signed his massive five-year/$85 million contract with $40- million guaranteed in 2016. Between injuries and a lack of sacks, many believe Vernon has not lived up to that deal, though it could and should be argued his value is more than just sack numbers. Trading Vernon before June 1 would free up $11.5 million with $8 million left in dead money. If kept, he is set to have a $19.5 million cap hit in 2019. The trade would free up $15.5 million in cap space with $4 million in dead money if it takes places post June 1. If traded, Vernon would count as just a $15.5 million cap hit over the next two seasons with no guaranteed money left on his deal.
Report: David Irving suspended indefinitely for violating Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse - Blogging The Boys
Earlier in the week news broke that Cowboys defensive lineman Randy Gregory would be suspended indefinitely for violating the Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse. Shortly after that news, we also learned that David Irving could be facing a suspension, too. That other shoe has dropped, so to speak. Irving has also been suspended indefinitely for the same violation.
Just How Committed Is Your Team to Its Quarterback? - The Ringer
Plenty of franchises are saying the right things when it comes to their signal-callers, but can we trust them? How should Eli Manning, Josh Rosen, and other embattled QBs feel about what they’re hearing from the combine this week?
NFL Combine results: 5 winners and 2 losers from RBs on bench press, 40-yard dash, and more - SB Nation
Miles Sanders, Penn State. Sanders likely cemented his spot as a Day 2 pick by flashing the speed that pushed him to more than 1,200 rushing yards in his lone season as a Nittany Lions starter. The 215-pound back clocked a 4.45-second 40 to help dispel the notion he’s just Saquon Barkley’s backup. He also had the third-fastest short shuttle time for RBs and led the way in the three-cone drill.
