The Rams look to have solved a roster hole before free agency even kicks off.
Prior to the NFL free agency period starting (or even the legal tampering period), the Los Angeles Rams have dipped into addressing roster needs by signing FS Eric Weddle who was released by the Baltimore Ravens just days ago.
It was revealed almost immediately that Weddle signed for an average of $5.25m per year with incentives that could knock it up to $6.25m for two years:
The #Rams have agreed to terms on a 2-year deal with Pro Bowl S Eric Weddle worth up to $12.5M, source said. $10.5M base. He considered retirement, but quickly landed… back on the field.

This likely means the Rams will be reluctant to spend valuable draft capital (first-round pick) on a safety as Weddle will prove to be a valuable “bridge” player, just as LT Andrew Whitworth has been.
So what’s next for the Rams?
Well, according to Spotrac, the Rams will have roughly $30m in cap space to work with after signing Weddle. The price can be seen as a major win because it allows the Rams to either use that cap space to re-sign guys like Dante Fowler Jr or Rodger Saffold, or to invest in their replacements from the free agency market.
The holes that remain on the roster are: LG, C, DT, OLB (maybe twice), ILB, and CB. Some of these are arguable as the Rams could opt to let young players like Brian Allen and Micah Kiser fill the center and inside linebacker spots, though we’ll have a clearer picture in a week or two.
The next possible moves could very well include re-signing Rodger Saffold or Dante Fowler Jr, and tendering starters like ILB Cory Littleton.
Hang tight, free agency has yet to start.
