Peter King posted his only mock draft before the real thing starts on Thursday night.
The Texans’ mocks have become redundant and all too similar. The Texans invariably stay still. and they select either an offensive tackle or a cornerback. That’s it. That’s all there is to it.
Leave it to Peter King to make a real wild, cool, and tough choice for the Houston Texans:
17. Houston: Andre Dillard, T, Washington State
PROJECTED TRADE: Houston sends 23rd and 55th picks to Giants for this choice.
No team in the NFL needs a radical upgrade at tackle as much as the Texans. Per Pro Football Focus, the starting Houston tackles last year, Julie’n Davenport and Kendall Lamm, allowed 101 quarterback disruptions (sacks, hits, hurries) on Deshaun Watson, which is downright abominable considering Watson’s one of the most mobile quarterbacks in the league. Think how many pressures he avoided just by being Deshaun Watson. Dillard’s the top tackle on Houston’s board, from what I hear, and teams think he’s got a chance to be a good left tackle.
Ahhhh, yes. That’s the stuff. Andre Dillard is the best pass protecting tackle in this class. He will need to learn how to run block, and probably will be able to. He just hasn’t shown it enough in college.
With Dillard at left tackle, Houston could let Juli’en Davenport, Seantrel Henderson, Martinas Rankin (?), and mystery rookie (?), battle it out at right and then let the scraps swing it from there.
I also am so in love with the idea that the Texans would trade the pick they received from the Seahawks for Duane Brown just to take another tackle with it. You gotta love symmetry.
