If you look at the numbers, Rivers should look to target Henry even more in the upcoming season. Henry has just 107 targets from Rivers in his two healthy seasons; in comparison, wide receiver Keenan Allen has 272 targets in his last two healthy seasons. Throughout his career, Rivers has posted a completion percentage of 75.0% and has tallied 62 first downs on 81 receptions when targeting Henry.

Rivers has put up an ADP win each of the last six years, the only quarterback who can make such a claim. He’s been drafted between 11th and 14th for the last five years running and has finished between eighth and 14th each year. That’s more or less who Rivers is — a high-end QB2 who is so reliably healthy that he’ll have end-of-year finishes that slightly outshine his weekly upside. Right tackle and guard are among the largest areas of need, but the Chargers also want a defensive tackle. Brandon Mebane is 34, Justin Jones hasn't played much and there isn't a lot of depth at the position. And with Philip Rivers now 37, expect L.A. to find a quarterback to develop behind him and Tyrod Taylor.

We will be in a league shortly with more starters over 30 than under 30. Rivers turns 38 this year, as I mentioned earlier, and that’s only the fourth oldest in the league. Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Eli Manning are the only starters currently older who all will start in 2019, and most likely even 2020.

There is also the fact that many analysts see this as a deep draft at the defensive line spot and the working theory is that the Chargers could likely get a first-round kind of talent late in the second round.

But nobody can play forever, and there's a chance a solid quarterback could fall to the Chargers at No. 28. Kyler Murray will likely be off the board by then, but after that, it's unclear where the quarterbacks will fall, and in what order. Alongside players like Lock, Grier and Jones, Ohio State's Dwayne Haskins is another player to keep an eye on in the first round.
