With their second pick in the sixth round, the Lions went
After taking Old Dominion wide receiver Travis Fulgham just two picks earlier in the sixth round, the Detroit Lions have selected running back Ty Johnson out of Maryland with the 186th overall pick.

Speed is the name of the game for Johnson, a late-round prospect who became just the fourth Maryland Terpin of all time to surpass 4,000 all-purpose yards in four years.
Johnson actually considered entering the draft last year, but eventually had second thoughts and returned for a senior season. Though it wasn’t his most productive year, Johnson left his college career with a degree and an impressive 7.6 yards per carry in his four seasons.
As you’d expect with that speed, he was also a standout kick returner at Maryland. Michigan fans may remember this:
It’s unclear if Johnson will threaten to take up a roster spot in Detroit’s crowded backfield, but the Lions don’t have a clear kick returner on their roster right now, and that may be Johnson’s path to Detroit’s final 53-man roster come September.
