There’s a big-time endorsement for the often-scorned Duke quarterback
There is a school of thought that the New York Giants would be selecting Eli Manning 2.0 if they were to select Duke quarterback Daniel Jones in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Well, venerable NFL analyst Gil Brandt, a Hall of Famer and long-time Dallas Cowboys personnel man, blew right past that comparison during a pre-draft conference call with reporters earlier this week.
Brandt, who has Jones ranked No. 9 on his list of the top 150 draft prospects, dropped the name Peyton Manning when talking about Jones.
“I love Dan Jones. I’ll tell you why I love him and I have to say this carefully. When you watch him and when you go back 30 years and you watch Peyton Manning you’re watching the same guy,” Brandt said.
“He’s athletic he doesn’t have a rocket for an arm, but neither did Peyton. He gambles on himself.”
Brandt added that Jones had an “unbelievable workout” at Duke, which several members of the Giants brass attended, and that he “has a lot of things going for him.”
Make of those remarks what you will, Giants fans.
