Like last year when he was looking for a new contract, Julio Jones has reportedly opted not to attend as the Atlanta Falcons begin their offseason workout program. Vaughn McClure of ESPN noted Jones was not in the building Monday as Atlanta opened up its offseason program but noted there is no cause for concern at this time. “Jones told me recently there is no set time where he needs to be in-house and that he plans to be there when it’s mandatory as he awaits a new contract,” McClure wrote. The Falcons are trying to work out a new contract extension with Jones, and both sides have been amicable about the process so far. However, it’s hard not to look at this situation and wonder if Jones is staying away at this time to make a statement. Last year he was seeking a lucrative long-term extension but got a short-term fix, instead. Jones is currently set to earn $13.46 million in 2019, which ranks 13th in the NFL this season.
