Chargers QB Philip Rivers, who has one year remaining on his contract, was not in attendance when the team kicked off its offseason workouts Monday. According to Eric Williams of ESPN, this “is unusual for the veteran signal caller.” Instead of showing up for the voluntary workouts, Rivers is on vacation in Florida with his family, head coach Anthony Lynn told reporters. Rivers is set to make $23 million in 2019 without a contract extension. There has been no hint of any potential contract impasse between Rivers and the Chargers leading up to this offseason, and nobody should read much into him taking a vacation during the Easter break. However, this highlights a simple fact: Rivers is getting older. At 37, his priorities might be changing a bit.
