Draft week is here, and the Bengals are about to make their first selection of the Zac Taylor era.
By now, you know all about how linebacker and offensive tackle are the biggest needs for this team heading into the 2019 season. One of those two positions is likely to be addressed in Round 1, as there will be several prospects at those positions worthy of the 11th pick.
But what if the Bengals decide it’s time to move on from Andy Dalton and find his eventual replacement?
ESPN draft expert Todd McShay is hearing that there’s a real chance Cincinnati goes with a quarterback in the first round. He also mentions Devin Bush as a target if the Bengals address linebacker.
After talking to people across the league, there is a real possibility the Bengals make a splash with a quarterback in the first round. With Baker Mayfield in the division and a new coach for the Bengals, Cincinnati might opt for a pick that would sell some tickets. The Browns have all the AFC North buzz right now, and going QB here would help Cincinnati keep pace. If not, Bush is the name to remember. He would immediately fill a need.
Obviously, you need to take this with a big grain of salt, as this is the time of the draft process when false rumors run rampant. Heck, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this were a rumor that the Bengals started. They’d probably like to see several quarterbacks drafted in the top 10 to push a guy like Ed Olver or Devin White to them at 11.
But Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins is a great prospect who is worthy of being the 11th pick. If he’s still there when Cincinnati goes on the clock, it sounds like we can’t rule out Haskins being the pick.
