Report: Seahawks want ‘at least a first-round pick’ for Frank Clark

We’re less than a week away from the 2019 NFL Draft, and the future of Seattle Seahawks DR Frank Clark is very much in doubt.

Having developed into a standout pass-rusher in 2018, Clark was given the franchise tag (one-year, $17.1 million) by the Seahawks in lieu of a long-term deal. There has been discussion that Clark may be on the trading block, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter did report on Saturday that if Seattle does send Clark elsewhere, they want something big in return.

That would be a 2019 first-round pick, just to clarify.

Clark racked up a career-high 13 sacks last season, and has 32 dating back to 2016. With Cliff Avril forced into retirement and Michael Bennett traded in the previous offseason, the former Michigan Wolverine became the main guy on the defensive line, and he delivered accordingly.

While Seattle did franchise tag Clark, it’s been reported that Frank won’t sign it and could potentially holdout. Multiple teams have expressed interest in trading for Clark, including the New York Jets, but unsurprisingly they weren’t too willing to part ways with the #3 overall pick.

The high price tag may prove to be a deterrent for most teams, but we’ll be sure to monitor this situation throughout the next several days. Seattle’s lack of draft picks and few tradeable assets has them in a bit of a bind. That doesn’t mean Clark is a goner, but it’s very possible that they could move him instead of pay him an average of $20 million or so per year.
