R.I.P Reggie Cobb (July, 7 1968- April 20, 2019)

It was unexpected, per reports.

Fans of both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Volunteers received some terrible news Saturday with the passing of former running back Reggie Cobb.

Cobb, 50, suffered a heart attack on Saturday, April 20th. He was entering his 26th season as a NFL scout after a seven-year career in the league.

Before he made his way to Tampa Bay, Cobb was a standout back at the University of Tennessee, where he ranks 11th all-time in rushing yards. He still holds the school record for most rushing touchdowns (17) in a season.

His best year came in 1987, where he racked up 1,721 all-purpose yards and led the SEC with 20 total touchdowns.

Cobb’s time at Tennessee was enough to prompt the Bucs to take him with the 30th overall pick in the second round of the 1990 NFL Draft.

Even though he struggled a bit in his first couple of seasons, the light came on in 1992. Cobb rushed for 1,171 yards and nine touchdowns that year, but he decided to test the waters in free agency and would go on to sign with the Green Bay Packers after the 1993 season.

He played for the Packers, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the New York Jets over the next three seasons, but couldn’t reclaim the magic from 1992 and was out of the NFL after seven years. Cobb amassed 3,743 yards and 25 touchdowns over his career while also recording 123 catches for 949 yards.

But his football career was far from over. Cobb joined the Washington Redskins as scout and worked for the team for two years before joining the Bucs in a similar role. He was with his former team for six years before moving on to the San Francisco 49ers - where he was about to enter his 11th season as a scout.

“Reggie was an enthusiastic and passionate person who had a special ability to brighten up a room with his personality and infectious smile,” 49ers general manager John Lynch said in a statement. “For 10 years, the 49ers were better because of Reggie and these unique qualities that he possessed.”

The rest of the NFL world mourned the loss as well, with many of the profession’s biggest names paying tribute to Cobb.

R.I.P Reggie.
