The CSR staff’s 2019 NFL Draft predictions

The NFL Draft is a total crapshoot, but making predictions of what will happen can still be fun.

It’s finally here — the 2019 NFL Draft kicks off tonight at 8 p.m. ET from Nashville, Tenn. and fans are chomping at the bit to find out who the newest crop of Panthers are going to be.

To fully get you into the spirit of the draft, I asked the CSR staff to give me some predictions on what they believe will happen this weekend. Because they’re under the rule of my iron fist swell guys and gals, they obliged.

Bradley Smith

Marty Hurney will take an offensive tackle at No. 16 and make a large portion of the fan base happy, but then will make everyone mad by trading multiple Day 2 picks to move up and select quarterback Will Grier.

Walker Clement

The Panthers will only draft one defensive lineman and he will have a less impressive resume and combine performance than Erik Sommers.

Erik Sommers

All of this nonsense about the Panthers drafting a quarterback early will prove to be nothing more than an elaborate ruse that has brought unnecessary stress to all the people who actually believed it. Then again, I also waxed poetically and publicly that the Panthers would beat the Steelers last year so, there’s that.

Jonathan DeLong

The Panthers are going to make most reasonable Panthers fans happy by taking a defensive end or offensive tackle in the first round. Then I think they’ll ruin all that goodwill on Day 2 by picking a player at a position that we don’t need when a mock draft favorite is sitting on the board, a la Will Grier in Round 2.

Brian Beversluis

The Panthers will end up taking the boring but safe route and grabbing Cody Ford after Andre Dillard, Jonah Williams, Brian Burns, and Montez Sweat get taken before No. 16. He might be the best fit at left guard and his versatility will be huge for this offensive line.

Ashley Barnett

Even though the pass rush should be addressed, the Panthers will pull a surprise move by drafting D.K. Metcalf to compliment Cam Newton and allow the team to be more creative with D.J. Moore.

Daniel Belton

The Panthers will NOT trade up or down on Thursday night. They’ll stay put at No. 16 and draft the best offensive tackle remaining.

Billy Marshall

The Panthers re-signed Daryl Williams this off-season, which gives them two above average right tackles. They need a natural left tackle, but it wouldn’t shock me to see them take another right tackle at No. 16. Such is life as a fan of this team.

Jason Hewitt

The Panthers will select offensive tackle Andre Dillard in the first round. This should finally be the year that Cam Newton gets some legitimate protection from a much improved offensive line.

What do you think, Panthers fans? Do you have any draft predictions you’d like to share? If so, let’s hear them!
