Two former Chiefs participate in “broadcast boot camp”

Matt Cassel and Brandon Flowers spent four days learning about sports broadcating.

Former Kansas City Chiefs Matt Cassel and Brandon Flowers were two of 33 players who participated in the NFL’s player engagement broadcast boot camp last week at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.

The league says more than 300 players have taken part in the boot camp and more than 35 percent have earned broadcasting jobs as a result of their participation.

Cassel joined NFL Network’s Good Morning Football to discuss his decision to participate.

“At this point in my career, after year 14, I’m a free agent, and you have to start looking at what the next phase of life is,” he said. “I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to go learn about the industry. You’ve been involved in the aspects of media throughout your career, however, to really understand what it takes, this broadcasting boot camp has been amazing and educational and fantastic in every way.”

Flowers was drafted by the Chiefs in 2008 and spent five seasons with the team, while Cassel signed with the Chiefs as a free agent in 2009 and spent four seasons with the club.
