Who would have ever thought that one of the most exciting undrafted free agents signed by the following would be a punter?
Well, besides being a position of need for the team, punters don’t get that much more exciting than Notre Dame’s Tyler Newsome.
At 6-foot-3 and 214 pounds, Newsome is on the larger side of the punter spectrum, and also one of the strongest. During Notre Dame’s pro day, the mullet-rocking specialist put up a staggering 30 reps on the bench press. For context, that would rank him second among the team’s draft picks, falling just one short of Drue Tranquill’s 31 at the NFL Combine.

Newsome saved his best season for last as he set his career-high in punting average during the 2018 season with 44.7 yards over 53 punts.
With Canadian Football League transplant Ty Long as the only other punter on the roster, that competition battle is as open as it gets.
Newsome possesses a strong leg and a competitive nature not often found in a special teams player. He leaves Notre Dame owning seven different records for punting and might end up being the UDFA with the best chance to make the final 53.
