ESPN power rankings have Rams with 10 wins

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff drops back against the Seattle Seahawks, Nov. 11, 2018.

High praise from ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry.

Updated power rankings from ESPN are up, and they’re quite complimentary of the Los Angeles Rams:

3. Los Angeles Rams

Projected wins: 10.1
Chance to make playoffs: 76.4 percent

Where the team improved this offseason: Pass rush. The Rams re-signed outside linebacker Dante Fowler Jr. after he proved himself as a playmaker in only half a season under Wade Phillips. Fowler’s production took a significant step forward in the playoffs, and that trend is likely to continue after his first training camp with the team. The Rams also added veteran pass-rusher Clay Matthews. Despite a drop in production last season, it’s likely that Matthews’ savvy will help a young group that also includes third-year pro Samson Ebukam. -- Lindsey Thiry

Not sure I agree with Thiry’s assessment of the pass rush (at all) or her selection of the rush itself versus other options as what the Rams improved, but alas.

The Rams’ ranking in 3rd place is a reflection of ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI). Not exactly sure how the FPI generated the win projections or playoff chances, but the Rams were one of four teams with double-digit win projections (along with the Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots) and also one of four teams with playoff chances above 75% (same teams).

Lookin’ good!
