Giants’ 90-man roster: LB Jonathan Anderson looking for another chance

Jonathan Anderson (58)

Anderson was reserve for three seasons in Chicago, but saw no NFL action in 2018

There will be a lot of players like linebacker Jonathan Anderson floating around NFL training camps this summer. A three-year reserve with the Chicago Bears, Anderson saw no action last season. He is trying to re-start his career with the Giants.

Let’s learn a little about him as we continue profiling each of the players on the 90-man roster the Giants will bring to training camp.

The basics

Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 237
Age: 27
Experience: 4
Position: LB

How he got here

Anderson was on and off the rosters of the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals last season, but never appeared in a game.

From 2015-17 he played in 31 games with the Bears, starting three. He has 40 tackles, one for loss, in his career. The only season he played regularly on defense was 2015, when he played 315 snaps for Chicago, most of those in pass coverage, and earned a 53.1 grade while giving up 26 receptions in 35 targets.

Lester Wiltfong of SB Nation’s Windy City Gridiron told me that Anderson was a “special teamer” and “fringe” player for his three seasons in Chicago.

The Giants signed Anderson to a reserve/futures contract at the end of December.

2019 outlook

Anderson would seem to face an uphill battle to make the roster. The Giants return Alec Ogletree, B.J. Goodson, Nate Stupar and Tae Davis. They also selected Ryan Connelly in the fifth round of the draft.
