For the Giants it’s all quarterback all the time, and probably going to stay that way
Good morning, New York Giants fans!
How will Giants’ Eli Manning handle his mentorship of Daniel Jones? | SNY
Kurt Warner, of course, has been where Manning is now. Here are some of Warner’s thoughts on Manning and Daniel Jones:
“The biggest challenge is that your leash is always short,” Warner said last month at the NFL Draft in Nashville. “The biggest challenge is performing every single week, and anytime you slip up, no matter how good you’ve been, it’s an opportunity for everybody to sit back and go ‘Is it time? Is he hitting the wall?’ Two (bad) games in a row and it’s ‘Oh my gosh!’ “
Warner thinks Manning will handle the situation with class:
“I think Eli will be a great mentor to whoever is in that room,” Warner said. “He will treat them with class and he will share his secrets and prepare them as best he can. He’ll be a great pro at that.
”Even if nobody ever wants to do it - and nobody ever wants to do that. Nobody ever wants to like the guy who is going to take your job, standing next to you. But I have no doubt in my mind that that is exactly who and what Eli Manning is going to be.”
Ex-GM: Daniel Jones Will Be a Good Fit for the Giants
Former Vikings GM Jeff Diamond joined the ‘Valentine’s Views’ podcast recently. Here is Diamond speaking with MSG Networks:
“The prevailing opinion was that Jones would have been available with the Giants’ No. 17 overall choice when they picked Clemson defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence,” Diamond told MSGNetworks.com. “And that outstanding edge rusher Josh Allen from Kentucky, chosen one pick after Jones by Jacksonville, was the better choice at No. 6,”
“That would’ve been a great scenario for the Giants but if they thought Jones was the best fit and were concerned he wouldn’t be there, then I don’t blame them for taking him at No. 6. I say what’s done is done and let’s give this time to play out. In my 20-plus years of sitting in draft rooms and participating in the draft as a general manager or team president, I’ve seen plenty of draft picks get panned by analysts and fans only to wind up as Pro Bowlers. And vice versa — picks that were praised and turned into duds. There have been first-round QB busts such as Ryan Leaf and Heath Shuler and third round success stories like Joe Montana and Russell Wilson. That’s the inexact science of any pro sports league draft with the NFL Draft the most highly publicized and scrutinized.”

This probably depends on how many games the Giants win.

28. NEW YORK GIANTS (5-11)
Every reporter and TV screamer and columnist has weighed in on Eli Manning and Daniel Jones and the sanity of the general manager. So let’s spend one paragraph on one of the most interesting things we’ll witness this year: exactly who will be impactful, and who will line up where, on the Giants defense. By my count, nine of the 11 starters on defense on opening day (if they open in a nickel package) could be new to the team over the last 15 months: defensive linemen B.J. Hill and Dexter Lawrence, linebackers Alec Ogletree, Oshane Ximines and Lorenzo Carter, and defensive backs Sam Beal, Deandre Baker, Antoine Bethea and Jabrill Peppers. Chemistry class will be in session at Giants camp in July. It had better be — because no one knows how productive the post-Odell offense will be.
