Dan Quinn sounds a hopeful but the availability of both for training camp still might be up in the air.
The Atlanta Falcons have one of the best safety duos in the NFL. Ricardo Allen has extremely underrated range and ball skills, which have allowed him to be the team’s elite safety net for years. Keanu Neal is big-time hitter and playmaker who strikes justifiable fear into receivers and running backs. The only problem with the duo is that, you know, both of them missed the majority of the 2019 season thanks to injury.
Thankfully, both are on track to return by the start of the season, and it sounds like we could see Allen and Neal on the field for training camp.
Keanu Neal and Ricardo Allen remain on track with their rehab, said Dan Quinn. He remains hopeful they’ll be on the field for training camp.

The “remains hopeful” part gives me a little pause, but training camp is well before the regular season, and the Falcons can sort out their safety depth in preseason while Allen and Neal ease in. This is not the kind of concrete, “you’ll see them at 100% in Week 1” news that we’re all hoping to get one of these days, but it’s another signpost on the way to that outcome. It’ll be nice to see this defense with the safety duo that has helped them actually look like a quality unit at points in the last three seasons.
