Reports from ESPN earlier this week stated that the NFL may consider placing Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill on the commissioner’s exempt list stemming from a KCTV5 report that included an audio exchange between Hill and fiancé Crystal Espinal. As investigations continue, the Chiefs have gone on record to say that Hill will not partake in any team activities.
But when it comes to the the list, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo is saying not so fast.
GARAFOLO: “My understanding is that for the time being that’s going to be enough for the league, and the team and all parties involved as far as what they should do in the immediate future while they continue to gather information,” Garafolo reported on Up to the Minute. “I know people have been talking about the possibility of the commissioner’s exempt list at least by the end of the week. That’s usually something they use when there is more of a pressing thing going on, let’s say the start of the season or the preseason or one of those things.
“In this case, as long as he’s not there with the team activities, the league has said there’s really nothing else to stop him from doing right now while we gather information. So I don’t expect anything in the very near future regarding Tyreek Hill and his status with the league.”
KCTV5 aired a follow-up report on the situation between Hill and Espinal on Tuesday evening, but there has been no further word on Hill’s criminal case, which was reopened following KCTV5’s initial release of the audio.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid’s next media availability is scheduled for this Saturday, May 4, ahead of the team’s first rookie minicamp practice.
