On Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles’ public relations department put out a notice that the team would be making a “major community announcement” during a Thursday press conference at Lincoln Financial Field.
And now the announcement is finally here!
The big news is that ... the Eagles’ home stadium will continue to be named Lincoln Financial Field through the 2032 NFL season.
That’s it.
Here’s a statement from Eagles chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie:
“We are excited to announce the continuation of our special partnership with Lincoln Financial. Since the first day of our relationship in 2002, we’ve shared many great moments at Lincoln Financial Field, including three NFC Championships, a Snow Bowl, countless concerts, and important community events like the Eagles Autism Challenge. At the end of the day, relationships are what matter, so we are honored and appreciative to have an exceptional partner in Lincoln Financial who continues to demonstrate with this extension a shared commitment to our team, our fans, and the community.”
So, the Linc will remain the Linc for at least 13 more years. Cool, I guess.
Not sure why the need to build suspense and potentially get fans excited for something that they probably don’t care about. Is the name of the stadium staying the same really a “major community announcement”?
