Although the Packers’ full camp schedule is not yet out, we finally have a start date.
Fans of the Green Bay Packers finally have a date to show up for the first practice of the team’s 2019 training camp, as well as details on the annual Shareholders Meeting. On Thursday afternoon, the team published a press release identifying Wednesday, July 24th as the date of the meeting, with training camp to commence with the start of practice on the following day.
This year’s Shareholders Meeting will take place inside Lambeau Field, as in years past, and is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM Central Time. Expect to hear from team president/CEO Mark Murphy, general manager Brian Gutekunst, and new head coach Matt LaFleur, who will be participating in the meeting for the first time.
About 24 hours later, LaFleur will lead the team in its first training camp practice on Thursday, July 25th. Under Mike McCarthy, practices in the early part of training camp usually began around mid-day, and that is likely to remain the case in 2019 — at least for the first practice. The team typically waits to publish a full training camp practice schedule until after the June minicamp, an event which wraps up the offseason workouts.
This year’s events mirror those of 2018, when the meeting also took place on a Wednesday and camp began on Thursday. As a result, expect the Packers’ Family Night Scrimmage to also be held on the same day as usual: the Saturday night before the first preseason game. This summer, that date will be August 3rd.
The Packers will hold joint practices with the Houston Texans in Green Bay leading up to the two teams’ preseason openers at Lambeau Field the following Thursday, August 8th. They then will travel to Baltimore to play the Ravens on August 15th, have a date with the Oakland Raiders (tentatively planned to take place in Winnipeg, Manitoba) the following week, and will return to Lambeau Field to wrap up the preseason against the Kansas City Chiefs on August 29th.
