The Philadelphia Eagles have their replacement for Nick Foles. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Eagles will sign quarterback Cody Kessler on Monday, likely giving him a shot to serve as the backup to starter Carson Wentz. Kessler, 26, would be an under-the-radar addition who could have a big impact. Wentz has had injury issues, and while he’s expected to be fine going forward, that’s still a factor for the future. Wentz is coming off a stress fracture in his back. It’s likely why the Eagles opted to bring in Kessler, who has made 12 career NFL starts, as opposed to letting the unproven Nate Sudfeld serve as Wentz’s backup. Kessler played in five games last season for Jacksonville, completing 85-of-131 passes (64.9 percent) for 709 yards, two TDs and two interceptions. The Jags cut Kessler last week.
