The team’s first overall pick of their 2019 NFL draft class has been locked up on his rookie deal.
Earlier today the Chicago Bears ended their mini camp and sent everyone home for the summer break. Naturally, everything will be pretty quiet from here until the Bears begin their training camp a few months from now.
For one player, there’s plenty to smile about today.
Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Chicago Bears have signed running back David Montgomery to his rookie contract.
Bears reached agreement with third-round pick, RB David Montgomery, per source.

As the team now heads into its quiet month, the only draft pick without a deal is sixth-round pick, Kansas St. CB Duke Shelley.
The official terms of the deal have yet to be announced.
Given that the Bears traded up in the 3rd round to land the rights to draft him, the 73rd overall pick is likely to have a sizable roll on offense this season. He’s only attended rookie minicamp and his first OTA’s, yet he’s already starting to turn heads.
Forget the kickers. You know who was impressive at #Bears minicamp today? Rookie running back David Montgomery.

Drafted out of Iowa State, he joins a backfield that includes veteran backs Tarik Cohen and Mike Davis. During his collegiate career Montgomery rushed for an average of 1,100 yards with 23 total touchdowns in his last two seasons. He’s the most likely candidate for the Bears’ featured role in their backfield.
Something tells me that #32 is going to be a pretty good running back in the not-so-distant future. And that’s certainly what Matt Nagy is seeking to complete his offense with.
