Your San Francisco 49ers links for Monday, June 9, 2019
So we had news on Sunday. The Houston Texans hosted 49ers Vice President of Player Personnel Martin Mayhew for an interview on the vacant GM position.
So that takes care of Mayhew, could they go after anyone else? Mayhew has experience as a GM for the Detroit Lions, but got canned in 2015. They could have brought him in as one of those great “perspective” interviews where the Texans get some ideas on what to do. The NFL loves doing those, Vic Fangio knows this quite well.
That leaves Adam Peters. Could he get a job? I think it falls into the same sort of job interview. The Texans may not have any intention on hiring him, but bring him in to pick his brain and see if there’s any ideas that help their organization.
It’s a really, really weird time to be firing a GM, so whatever the Texans do, they need to make a fast hire. Hopefully it’s the right one.
