A collection of San Francisco 49ers related links for Monday, June 3rd, 2019
The fans seem more concerned with the secondary than the 49ers brass, and the fans have good reason to be concerned. The 49ers had a paltry two interceptions last year, lowest in league history, and made no attempt to draft a safety. The team did, however, bring in Joe Woods to help, they boosted the pass rush through a trade and the draft, and signed the oft-injured but supremely talented Jason Verrett. With Tarvarius Moore switching back to his more natural position, my optimistically biased opinion leads me to believe that that’s enough.
Now here’s where I probably truly differ from the rest of the fanbase; I think Moore will take the free safety spot and Adrian Colbert snags the strong safety position. Jimmie Ward and Jaquiski Tartt are injured more often than not and Marcell Harris has a real shot at that SS spot but I just believe Moore is the most talented of the bunch and Woods has voiced his admiration of Colbert in the past. They also spoke about wanting the safeties to be more interchangeable this next year, and Moore and Colbert are similar physical specimens with Colbert looking like the more physical of the two. It just makes sense to me, but I’m obviously not as down on Colbert as many here seem to be. So our secondary would have Richard Sherman and Verrett (I hope he stays healthy) as the starting outside corners, I believe D.J. Reed Jr. beats out K’Waun Williams for the slot, and Moore and Colbert as our safeties. This may just be the ramblings of a mad man, but I am curious what others think.
