Minnesota Vikings News and Links: June 22nd and 23rd, 2019

Weekend and Birthday Open Thread

Good Morning!

Today is mrs_rob’s birthday, for the last several years she’s done some kind of race or event to start her birthday off right. Two years ago she entered (and completed) a 50k, this year it’s an Olympic length triathlon. Why do I mention this? Because we had to get up at 4am (the same time I scheduled this to post) and I’m the guy who drives her to all of these events. It’s criminally early! Now that I’m done whining for now, we’ll catch up on our NFC North opponents and then carry on with our news and links thread full of beer recommendations, nap strategies, crock pot and smoker recipes. Drop by for some fan wisdom, snark and have another beer, it’s the weekend!

Vikings news from other sources:

From Vikings.com Former Vikings QB and current NFL analyst for CBS Sports and Sirius XM Rich Gannon joined Wobby ‘On The Line’ to talk about how players should approach this summer break, year two of Kirk Cousins as a Viking, the addition of Gary Kubiak, importance of play-action passing game, and much more.

Wobby opens his pick 6 mailbag and addresses fan comments and questions, including his take on the most underrated player on the team, Jayron Kearse’s unique fit and roll on Mike Zimmer’s defense, who might emerge as the Vikings kickoff and punt returners, the team’s injury situation at the end of the offseason program, and more.

NFL Network’s Peter Schrager discusses six reasons why Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has no excuses entering 2019.

Matthew Coller at SkorNorth.com notes the Vikings announce training camp schedule and logistical changes.

Who is your favorite current Chicago Bears player?
none of them, was that a trick question?

Over at Acme Packing Company Tramon Williams & Charles Woodson sit atop Packers’ career ‘defensive touches’ leader board.

Cheese Curds, 6/21: Packers’ young defensive backs aim to give coaches tough decisions.

NFL Competition Committee settles on final rule for replay of pass interference in 2019.

Reading past the narrative shows that Matt LaFleur and Aaron Rodgers should be just fine.

League news:

Consistent with the weekend news and links I’ll post league news in the comments.

We come to today’s media selection: Stranger Things 3 | Final Trailer

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waiter, try the birthday cake and Welcome Aboard.
