Rapoport: Vikings not expected to address Kyle Rudolph situation anytime soon

So, what does that mean for the team?

For the better part of the past two months, there has been speculation running rampant about what the Minnesota Vikings intend to do with tight end Kyle Rudolph. Rudolph is in the final year of his current contract with zero guaranteed money, and with the Vikings pretty tight up against the salary cap, it would make sense for them to make some sort of move. That move could be a trade, a contract extension, or even an outright release.

Well, whatever the Vikings plan on doing with Rudolph, it doesn’t sound like they’re going to do it anytime soon.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network is reporting that the Vikings, in all likelihood, aren’t going to address the Rudolph situation “anytime soon.”

Rapoport reiterates that Rudolph has a deal on the table, as has been widely reported, and says that there are numerous teams interested in trading for Rudolph. However, he cites the team’s selection of Irv Smith Jr. in the second round of this year’s draft in talking about why it’s unlikely we see anything happen anytime soon. Apparently, Rapoport seems to think that the Vikings want to see how far behind Rudolph. . .if at all. . .Smith is when the team gets to camp before doing anything major with Rudolph.

At this point, I think we all sort of wish the whole situation with Rudolph was settled, one way or another. Personally, I hope that he’s on the team in 2019. . .after all, the Vikings don’t have to trade him, necessarily. . .and that he can team with Smith, Adam Thielen, and Stefon Diggs to cause a bunch of headaches for opposing defenses.

Whatever is going to happen, though, we probably shouldn’t be holding our breath waiting for it to happen in immediate future.
