What if the Eagles did end up trading for Larry Fitzgerald back in 2008? - SB Nation
Considering he was the main reason why Philadelphia didn’t win the NFC Championship in the first place, it feels right to have the Eagles make the Super Bowl in this reality. It would be their second time in five years reaching the big game, giving head coach Andy Reid another shot at the Lombardi Trophy. It’d also set up a rematch with the Steelers, who the Eagles beat 15-6 in Week 3 earlier that season. This brings up an interesting question when it comes to future of their core. Who knows, maybe the Eagles front office sees their appearance and possible win in the Super Bowl — which would have been their first ever — and lets the Reid-McNabb duo run a little bit longer, instead of trading away the quarterback in the 2010 offseason. Fitzgerald would be signed to a long-term deal, since Philadelphia wouldn’t want to lose him in free agency for nothing. With him still being in his prime, he’d continue to put up numbers with McNabb as his quarterback.

His smile is contagious (and shiny), and Eagles defender Timmy Jernigan has a lot more to smile about now that he can put his injury-filled 2018 behind him and look ahead to another season in Philadelphia. Jim Schwartz has never wavered in his support for Jernigan, and has repeatedly talked about how his personality and energy is contagious both in the locker room and on the field. But, now that he’s back on the field and healthy, he’s looking forward and putting his injury struggles in the past. “I’m motivated to win games and to help this team,” Jernigan said, according to the team site. “I feel like last year, that’s in the past, man. I can’t change that. I’m just focused on what’s ahead of me.”

Training camp position battles to watch for fantasy, 2019: RB - PFF
The contenders: Jordan Howard, Miles Sanders. The “contenders” line for Philadelphia could have easily been expanded to include some or all of Corey Clement, Wendell Smallwood, Josh Adams, and/or Boston Scott, and it’s not hard to envision one or more of those guys winding up with a marginally relevant role, especially Scott, who has been discussed as the new Darren Sproles. But really, it boils down to Howard (acquired this offseason in a trade with the Bears) and second-rounder Sanders. Fantasy drafters are torn on the two so far, with Sanders going off the board 35th among running backs and Howard 38th. How to approach them in drafts: Between his inexperience and a hamstring injury, we might not see Sanders seize the No. 1 job right away. And that’s awful for fantasy. If Howard has the job, we’ll see Howard, we’ll see Scott, we’ll see Sanders, we’ll see Clement and/or Smallwood and/or Adams. What we won’t see is fantasy value. If Sanders does get the job right away, he’s the only path to a bell cow (or even bell cow-adjacent) in Philadelphia. Basically, I’m letting someone else draft Howard, but if positive reports about Sanders come out between now and heavy drafting time, I could at least be tempted in his direction.

Darby, Mills, Jones, Maddox. All were on the shelf at one point in ’18. As long as that scenario doesn’t happen again, it’s really a no-brainer. Same group of corners, only the younger players like Jones, Maddox, Douglas and LeBlanc are now far more experienced. One caveat — a preseason trade, which appears to border on likely, would certainly change the big picture here. BETTER

Ask Zach Ertz what he’s most proud of and there’s a good chance that it won’t be catching the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl LII. It’s more likely he will talk about the Ertz Family Foundation. In 2018, the two-time Pro Bowler and his wife, Julie, a professional soccer player who won the World Cup in 2015, launched the Philadelphia-based nonprofit to empower kids and families through sports, education and their communities. The couple had been considering starting a foundation for years, but it wasn’t until Ertz accompanied Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz on a trip to Haiti in 2017 that he realized the time was finally right. “It really opened my eyes to what a mission backed by faith could do,” says Ertz, who says that Christianity has played a central role in his life over the last three years. “My relationship with Jesus has changed my life and really the foundation of who my wife and I are as people.” In less than a year, the foundation is already affecting immeasurable change throughout the region, from donating backpacks and Thanksgiving meals to larger initiatives like Catches for the Community. The campaign, which turned every first down and touchdown by Ertz into cash last season, raised nearly $70,000. Ertz says that the goal is to leave a bigger impact off the field than what the powerhouse sports duo has accomplished on the field: “That’s the legacy we want to leave in Philadelphia because, from the moment I got here, this city has accepted me and given me and my family so much. We want to repay that.”

4) Philly made sure the depth chart wouldn’t be as weak at running back this season but only made small investments at the position. The Eagles traded a conditional 2020 sixth-round pick for Jordan Howard, who will turn 25 years old in November and is on the final year of his rookie contract. Howard had a stellar rookie season in 2016, but his play and efficiency declined in each of the past two years. His pass catching ability has also been a question. He’s still likely to be the lead back for 2019.

Quick Predictions For The Quarterfinals - All For XI
On paper, the USWNT should be able to advance. Every member of the Starting XI is world class, and their strength in depth is patently absurd. No disrespect to France whatsoever, but the American are just too strong. On paper. The problem is that the US’ starters are all tired from having to play almost a full 90 against Spain because Jill Ellis was having a normal one. Hardly anyone will be at 100% on Friday, and a few— including Alex Morgan— may have to play while nursing minor injuries. Given Ellis’ questionable game management strategy, this match will likely be won or lost on fitness and individual brilliance. A USWNT at 70% is still probably good enough to beat France and get through to the semifinals. But it’s not a sure thing at the moment, and you can rest assured that Les Bleues will show up ready to shock the world. If you’re a USWNT fan and you’re feeling a little nervous, let’s just say that you’re not alone.
