Every NFL Franchise’s Most Team Friendly Contract | Bleacher Report
Kansas City Chiefs: QB Patrick Mahomes
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the reigning NFL MVP. He will cost the Chiefs a mere $4.5 million in 2019. His contract is arguably the best value in professional sports.

19 for 2019: Blount will help fill void created by Thornhill’s departure | The Daily Progress
Thornhill — a second-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in this year’s NFL Draft — left Charlottesville tied with Chase Minnifield for sixth in program history with 13 career interceptions. Most coaching staffs would be scrambling to replace a player of his magnitude, but Blount was one of the Cavaliers’ breakout stars last season on defense, and he seems poised to step into Thornhill’s massive shoes.
All-Ferentz Team: Linebacker | Hawkeye Nation
Anthony Hitchens: The Ohio product showed up as a safety and left Iowa as a problem for opposing offenses. He led the Big Ten in tackles as a junior and was named second-team all-conference as a senior.

Titans coach Vrabel reiterates Ryan Tannehill is backup
“His job as a backup -- everybody’s job as a backup -- is to push the guy in front of him,” Vrabel said this weekend, per UPI. “To compete and try to make yourself better and try to make the team better and see how everybody responds.”
The week of July 4 is the quietest one in the NFL calendar, when coaches, players and team employees scatter for down time before training camps open and the next season is afoot. But this week’s MMQB begins in another part of the world. Instead of vacation, the Chargers head coach spent his summer break in a way that he hopes will have a long-lasting impact: Opening a school in northern Tanzania that he and his wife, NBC New York news anchor Stacey Bell, helped make a reality.
Frank Gore won’t retire until he ‘can’t do it no more’ | NFL
“I just go how I feel,” Gore told reporters at his football and cheer camp on Saturday, per the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “If I feel I can’t do it no more, then I call it.”
Steelers, Packers among top five sleepers in 2019; Dak 2.0? | NFL.com
Jacksonville Jaguars: After failing to live up to the hype a season ago, the Jaguars have become an afterthought for many observers. I feel like the lack of buzz is an overreaction to the team’s dismal 2018 campaign. Why? Well, the defense remains a potential top-five unit with Jalen Ramsey, Myles Jack and Yannick Ngakoue positioned as core members of the group. Despite the absence of Telvin Smith (who has said he won’t play in 2019) and the release of Malik Jackson, the defense is more than capable of stuffing every opponent on the schedule. Nick Foles’ insertion into the starting lineup at QB1 should provide the offense with more consistency and stability at the game’s most important position. Additionally, Foles’ easy-going leadership style and winning pedigree should play well in the locker room and help the Jaguars get back on track as a title contender. If Leonard Fournette plays up to his potential as a workhorse back, the Jaguars could reprise their role as the bully on the block in the AFC.
Former Patriots LB Tedy Bruschi suffers 2nd stroke | NFL.com
“Tedy is recovering well, and would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at Sturdy Memorial Hospital (Attleboro, Massachusetts) for all they have done,” the first statement read. “Tedy and his family thank you for ongoing encouragement, and kindly ask for privacy at this time.”
“Competition definitely brings out the best in you,” he said, via the Miami Herald. “Coach Flo has a presence in our meeting room at times, talking about a lot of different situations. He has a really good personality. He’s been very consistent with his message so far and that’s something that really carries weight in the locker room and gets guys to play for you.”
And more reasoning and logic: The NFL embarks on its 100th season this fall, and the Raiders their 60th. The timing would be ideal to send the franchise out by bringing in scores of retired greats to hoist their numbers, to allow fans one final peek at player greatness in a season-long goodbye in Oakland.
The only other NFL teams older than 25 years that do not retire numbers are the Atlanta Falcons and Dallas, though the Cowboys have taken numbers 8 (Troy Aikman), 12 (Staubach) and 22 (Emmitt Smith) out of circulation due to sheer popularity.

Tyreek Hill could set all-time Chiefs wide receiver records
In 2018, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill broke the franchise single-season record for receiving yards, gaining 1,479 yards on 87 catches. The previous record — 1,391 yards on 78 catches — had been set by Derrick Alexander in the 2000 season.
Sports Illustrated writer thinks Broncos and Raiders “stuck in neutral” in 2019
In an article on Friday, Sports Illustrated’s Conor Orr identified five NFL teams that are “stuck in neutral.” He identified this as “the NFL’s purgatory—somewhere around .500, with [draft] picks consistently in the 11-20 range.”
Two Chiefs cornerbacks in need of expectation adjustments
I looked at the cornerback position for both. How that position performs could go a long way in how far this team eventually goes into the postseason. The Chiefs didn’t do all that much to address the position in free agency and the draft. That can be taken as a vote of confidence of those in the building or the biggest reason for concerned heading into training camp.
