CB Greedy Williams picked off QB Baker Mayfield and WR Odell Beckham Jr “took someone’s soul” on Day 2 of camp.
Day 2 of Browns training camp still had fans buzzing, on the eve of the pads going on. Let’s get to Friday’s recap.
Cleveland Browns Training Camp Report - Day 2 (7/26/19)
1. Hoping for Good Fortune: You don’t like to see any injuries happen in training camp, preventing a team or players from wondering what could have been. And to start things off, the Giants’ wide receiver situation got a lot worse this morning with this news:
Not only did Giants WR Sterling Shepard dislocate his thumb at Thursday’s practice, but WR Corey Coleman also tore his ACL. Brutal.

When I read these Twitter reports, for all the excitement there is in camp, I hold my breath, hoping nothing serious happens to a member of our beloved Browns. For now, the team is pretty good through two days of camp. The only player who began the day sidelined was WR Damion Ratley, who is working through a leg injury suffered on the first day of camp.
2. Drill of the Day: Often times, a defensive back will need to shed the chip block of a cornerback or other player, to then try and make a play on the player with the ball. This drill works on the motions of doing that.

3. Greg Joseph vs. Austin Seibert: Besides right guard, the kicker position is another one facing a true competition. Even though it’s popular to pick the rookie to make the team, I liked hearing about Joseph’s improved depth this offseason, which is why I put him on my 53-man projection. To start camp off, he has the edge:
Kicking battle took center stage at #Browns training camp moments ago. Greg Jospeh 4 for 4 (41, 33, 48 and 51 yards). Rookie Austin Seibert 3 for 4 (made 33, 48 off upright and through and 51; missed 41 wide right). GM John Dorsey stood under goalpost and closely monitored.

4. One-on-One Drills: I don’t envy being a cornerback in some of these one-on-one drills. It started with WR Odell Beckham Jr, who ran a curl route to “steal a guy’s soul (it was DB Robert Jackson)” by breaking his ankles, as two reporters put it.

And then, showing off his quickness for the second day in a row was WR Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi.

5. Defensive Depth Chart: Cleveland.com’s Jake Burns does a fantastic job providing live analysis at training camp. I don’t know how the heck he is able to watch all 22 players on the field at a time and dissect it all so quickly; I have enough trouble seeing jersey numbers for one player at a time in camp. Anyway, he talked about what appear to be the first-, second-, and third-team units for the defense. Let’s start with defensive line:
DL (1st): DE Myles Garrett, DT Sheldon Richardson, DT Larry Ogunjobi, DE Olivier Vernon
DL (2nd): DE Genard Avery, DT Trevon Coley, DT Daniel Ekuale, DE Anthony Zettel
DL (3rd): DE Chad Thomas, DT Brian Price, DT Carl Davis, DE Chris Smith
And then the linebackers. Note, Burns also pointed out that Taylor ran with the ones when three linebacker packages were deployed.
LB (1st): MLB Joe Schobert, OLB Christian Kirksey
LB (2nd): MLB Adarius Taylor, OLB Ray-Ray Armstrong
LB (3rd): MLB Sione Takitaki, OLB Mack Wilson
LB (4th): MLB Willie Harvey, OLB Anthony Stubbs
Jarvis Landry says defense’s three-safety looks, which have been very effective, have been among challenges offense has faced in first two practices.

6. How Pumped Would You Be...if you showed up to training camp, and DE Myles Garrett fired a pass into the stands at you, and then you throw it back to him?

7. Greedy for Picks: CB Greedy Williams needs to work his way up from the second-team defense, and he got off to a nice start on Day 2 of camp, intercepting a pass in one-on-one drills.

And then, here is Williams stepping in front of a Mayfield pass in the end zone, intended for WR Odell Beckham Jr.

And then here is some praise from Brendan Leister:
Watching Greedy in person today was pretty crazy. So long but also so fluid. The ball skills are really natural. Expected some stiffness but didn’t see much.

8. Hollywood Higgins: One of the standout players on Day 2 of camp for the offense was WR Rashard Higgins. Here he is catching a 7-on-7 red zone pass from QB Baker Mayfield.

Higgins is very good, folks. Acrobatic catch earlier in 1 on 1s & easy separation for a deep catch vs Carrie just now.

9. Tim Couch in the House: Former Browns QB Tim Couch will be calling preseason action again, and he was in attendance giving some love to the fans:

10. Brownies: It was Kyle Kalis’ turn at right guard with the first-team offense today. ... OL Austin Corbett was the second-team center. ... WR Derrick Willies caught a touchdown pass off of a tipped pass by QB Drew Stanton. ... LB Sione Takitaki continued to be a little physical on non-contact days. ... RB Duke Johnson is getting reps as the third-down back. ... TE Seth DeValve, besides working at tight end, is working as the backup fullback. ... DT Mike Daniels signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions. A total of nine puppies have been adopted this year. ... After practice, head coach Freddie Kitchens allowed players’ families to come onto the field:
This is pretty cool. Freddie Kitchens gives his players time after practice to be with their families. That hasn’t always happened in the past. #Browns pic.twitter.com/RqW6ARomJf

11. Next Up: Practice continues Saturday in Berea, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. It will be the first padded practice of camp.
Pupdate: Rashard Diggins found a home during today's practice!

But @CALLME_WOOD met a sweet pup who didn't find a home today! She's looking for her furrrever home at #BrownsCamp! pic.twitter.com/YOv7Lz8X7A
