Forbes ranks the Dallas Cowboys as the world’s most valuable sports team... again

The Dallas Cowboys. America’s Team. A worldwide brand that transcends sports and pop culture.

Everybody knows who the Dallas Cowboys are, they’re everywhere. Just recently I was on vacation in Israel and spotted this shirt. The brand is strong, my friends.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that the Cowboys are such a recognizable brand across the world. Under the ownership of Jerry Jones the team has catapulted to the forefront of sports on a global stage. When you’re as savvy a businessman as he is and three decades have gone by, you’re going to have an awful lot to show for your work.

There is so much to the Cowboys brand that it is actually impossible to list. Who they are is insanely valuable, the stadium they play in is a palace that’s home to both sports and entertainment, and from a retail perspective they sit in a class all by themselves as far as other NFL teams are concerned.

People typically take notice of the power that the Cowboys wield which is why Forbes has ranked them as the most valuable professional sports franchise in each of the last three years. The annual ranking was released on Monday, and wouldn’t you know it, the Dallas Cowboys are once again kings. Four in a row, baby.

Forbes ranks the overall value of the Cowboys at $5 billion, the only team to hit cinco b’s in the billion department (the Yankees are valued at $4.6 billion). As you can see Dallas is one of three NFL teams to crack the top 10 with only one MLB team on the list, three NBA ones, and three soccer ones.

One of the more interesting things to consider when you look at this list is how successful each team has been. Of course, success is defined as titles so we’ll look at the last time each of them won one.

As you can see, of the top 10 teams ranked by Forbes, only the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Dodgers are experiencing longer title droughts than the Dallas Cowboys. It’s pretty unbelievable that Jerry Jones’ team continues to reign supreme despite not winning it all for almost a quarter century.

Can you imagine what the value of the Cowboys would be in this day and age if they did manage to win a Super Bowl? The parades we see every year for various teams would be put to shame, jersey sales would absolutely skyrocket, it would be an exponential jump that no other team on this list is capable of making.

For now we’ll have to keep hoping and believing that such a day will come soon. This year’s team seems to be positioned well enough to contend for the game’s ultimate prize, here’s hoping that they’re able to cash (no pun intended) in.
