Watts was injured before practice, while Breeland was injured during the workout.

Kansas City Chiefs second-year safety Armani Watts can’t catch a break.

Watts became the third player placed on the Chiefs’ non-football injury (NFI) list this summer on Saturday, according to head coach Andy Reid. Watts joins defensive end Tim Ward and linebacker Darius Harris on the NFI.

“Something happened to his rib during the run [Saturday],” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said, referring to the Chiefs’ morning conditioning test.

According to our in-house medical expert, Aaron Borgmann, recovery time for a rib injury usually ranges from a couple of days to a week.

Watts will likely be eager to get back, having missed most of last year due to a groin injury and ensuing core muscle surgery.

Cornerback Bashaud Breeland lacerated his thumb at Saturday’s practice, but Reid said that he should be “OK.”

Borgmann says that a thumb laceration is a tough injury, but it will likely be stitched up and a quick return to practice could be expected with Breeland having some sort of protection around the injured thumb. Borgmann believes that could happen as early as Sunday, when the Chiefs are scheduled to be back on the practice field at 8:15 a.m. Arrowhead Time.

Second-year cornerback D’Montre Wade came on to replace Breeland when he left for the training tent.
