The Carolina Panthers’ newest addition to the defensive line just tagged in as the NFL’s 75th best player last season
Well, it already appears the Panthers bringing in former Tampa Bay Buccaneer’s defensive tackle Gerald McCoy was a #goodsigning.
Gerald McCoy made his mark at #75 on the NFL’s annual top 100 list, which is 12 spots above franchise quarterback Cam Newton following his injury riddled 2018 campaign. McCoy’s career can be defined by consistency, often being the lone bright spot on a Tampa Bay defense that spanned from average to downright atrocious. McCoy has logged at least 6 sacks every season since 2013, and has played darn near every game in that span.
McCoy now has the opportunity to shine on a defense sporting a fellow top defensive tackle in Kawann Short, a stud defensive end in Mario Addison, the best linebacker in the league in Luke Kuechly, breakout candidates such as Shaq Thompson and Donte Jackson, and rookie pass rusher Brian Burns. This could be a banner season for McCoy, and it could land him even higher in the NFL’s top 100 list.
McCoy seems to be featured every season as a top player in the NFL, and this is further evidence that the Panthers got a steal in free agency. Number 75 after watching that Bucs defense last year? I’d imagine he can be top 50 in 2019 if the stars align.
