Report: Broncos expected to re-sign running back David Williams

NFL: Denver Broncos-Training Camp Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

Broncos adding to their running back depth.

According to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, the Broncos are expected to re-sign 2018 seventh-round pick, running back, David Williams.

WIlliams is a 6’0, 229lb running back who the Broncos selected in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He spent the spring and summer with the Broncos before being waived by them during the final 53-man roster cut down period. However, he was signed to the Broncos practice squad where he stayed until the Jacksonville Jaguars signed him to their active roster in early October, He would stay on their roster and play in a limited capacity until the end of the season. He would eventually be waived by the Jaguars in May of this offseason.

During the 2018 preseason with the Broncos, Williams totaled 27 rushes for 79 yards. He had 8 regular season carries with the Jaguars where he totaled 36 yards. Now he will look to crack the Broncos 53-man roster once again.

If he passes his physical, he will give the Broncos another power option out of their backfield. Outside of Royce Freeman, you have the speedster Phillip Lindsay, third-down back Devontae Booker, and undersized speedsters Khalfani Muhammad and rookie Devontae Jackson.

Williams likely faces long odds at making the 53-man roster, but he could find himself back on the teams Practice Squad if he has a solid summer with the team.
