Ezekiel Elliott sent out an apology note after his meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in New York on Tuesday regarding his incident at a music festival in Las Vegas in May. Elliott was handcuffed and detained for pushing a security guard to the ground, but the victim declined to press charges. There was a sense based on the apology note that Elliott might be avoiding serious punishment from the league, and that is what NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo said on Tuesday during an appearance on “NFL Total Access.” Garafolo said there is optimism Elliott will avoid a suspension. When Elliott was suspended six games in 2017 for violating the league’s Personal Conduct Policy, the NFL told the Dallas Cowboys running back they would be watching him closely. That figures into the reason for Tuesday’s meeting. Cowboys fans shouldn’t start celebrating yet; Jerry Jones was adamant Elliott wouldn’t be suspended before, and we saw how that turned out.
