Jay Gruden and Tim Rattay both have relationships with Donald Penn going back to Tampa Bay. Said (with a laugh) he didn't consult his brother in Oakland, because the Raiders are on Hard Knocks #HTTR

OL Coach Bill Callahan on Donald Penn: "Hopefully we can settle Ereck inside now with Donald coming. I feel good about depth at G with Ereck and Wes beginning to be developed. Donald gives us another LT we can work and hopefully we get Trent back."
— John Keim (@john_keim) July 30, 2019
Donald Penn started 170 straight games from 2007-2017. Missed 12 games in 2018 recovering from a foot injury. #Redskins https://t.co/JXemt4uyxS
— George Carmi (@Gcarmi21) July 30, 2019
#Redskins have signed guard Hugh Thornton, according to NFL source. He’ll be at practice today, though I’d expect he’ll need a few days to get acclimated. Started 32 games at guard for Colts from ‘13-15, but leg injuries forced him to retire at 25. Healthy now. Add him to the mix
— Brian McNally (@bmcnally14) July 31, 2019
Interesting. Couldn’t play in 2016 because his ankle wouldn’t heal. Played for the Arizona Hotshots in the AAF. Former 3rd round pick and still only 28. https://t.co/vfiMRksa0N
— Steve (@SteveDraft_) July 31, 2019
No idea if #Redskins will sign Hugh Thornton. But his back story is intense. Mom and sister murdered in Jamaica. Eventually moved back to her hometown in Oberlin, Ohio and graduated from her high school. Retired at 25 because of an ankle injury that cost him 2016 and didn't heal.

C Casey Dunn, in addition to Tyler Catalina, has also been waived by Washington, the team announces #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) July 31, 2019
Donald Penn said he wanted to weigh his options, his kids are in California, had other teams calling and said Washington gave him time to think everything through. Jon Gruden texted him jokingly, "You can't shake the Grudens." #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) July 31, 2019
#Redskins would not get what Trent Williams is worth. Call bluff.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 31, 2019
Ereck Flowers worked at LG today with Christian at LT and also Donald Penn. Flowers' footwork was more exposed at LT; won't be the case inside. Still saw some issues bending at the waist. But has a better shot there than outside that's for sure.
— John Keim (@john_keim) July 31, 2019
Waiting for #Redskins PR “100% false” denial. https://t.co/lJI38UtvTS
— Kevin Sheehan (@kevinsheehanDC) July 31, 2019
Here’s the play that had everybody buzzing earlier.
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) July 30, 2019
(He also had a mega obvious pass interference 30 yards downfield on a different rep. Gotta hear both sides.) https://t.co/FYU2pdFk36
Funny Tress Way moment. Sees fan in a 5 jersey. “Is that a Way jersey?!” Fan turns and reveals “Way”. To which Way yells “yes!... got my heart broken the other day. Saw a 5 and it was a McNabb Jersey.”
— John Keim (@john_keim) July 30, 2019
With the addition of Penn, our offensive line is pretty formidable in terms of size.
— George Carmi (@Gcarmi21) July 30, 2019
LT Penn 6'5" 317 lbs
LG Flowers 6'6" 329 lbs
C Rouiller 6'4 315 lbs
RG Scherff 6'5 319 lbs
RT Moses 6'6 317 lbs
Trent 6'5" 315, Wes Martin 6'3" 311
Big boys. #Redskins
Yes it’s an insurance signing for the Skins, but Penn wouldn’t be signing here unless he believed he’d be starting for an extended period of time if not the whole season. Call me pessimistic but I think Trent is moving on whether it’s sometime this preseason or in the offseason.
— Robbie Duncan (@RobbieDuncanOL) July 30, 2019
Big. If you can get a 2 and a 3 for Trent, do it now. #Redskins https://t.co/5eEnjr1T8n
— Kennedy Paynter (@Kennedy_Paynter) July 30, 2019
Redskins control his rights through 2020. He's losing potentially millions by holding out and not getting any younger. If you're the front office, you put a bandaid on it with Penn and bet Trent blinks first.
— Hogs Haven (@HogsHaven) July 30, 2019
Ya'll shouldn't be so quick to jump on a trade for Trent. 7x PB, borderline HOF LTs don't come around very often, and getting a 3rd round pick or whatever is pretty irrelevant in comparison.
— TheHogSty (@TheHogSty) July 30, 2019
It's only been a week. The thing to do is to make a strong effort to make things right.
Can someone alleviate my anxiety?
— George Carmi (@Gcarmi21) July 30, 2019
How is Jimmy Moreland 2019 NOT Danny Johnson from 2018?
DJ came out like a bat out of hell in last year's TC, and barely played throughout the season. In fact, we haven't heard a peep from him (he's on the PUP list). #Redskins
Rookie of the day: cornerback Jimmy Moreland. He intercepted two passes, including one off Dwayne Haskins in a two-minute drill. But Moreland also made a nice play vs. a screen when he beat a block by the receiver and ran up for a tackle. Moreland is behind Fabian Moreau in...
— John Keim (@john_keim) July 30, 2019
This is coming from someone who was generally happy the #Redskins spent a supplemental pick on Adonis Alexander because I followed him at VT. But the way he is playing some of these routes I can't explain. Looks like he is guessing routes and guessing wrong.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 30, 2019
Adonis has the size, But it's not clicking for him. Curious how expendable he is with his biggest advocate (Torrian Gray) gone. #Redskins https://t.co/3OOVCbgwb8

Another one: Sprinkle and Montae Nicholson. To the ground. Quickly ends.

I'll ride with John Keim all day, everyday. #Redskins pic.twitter.com/hsZmFJlRHe
I'm going to show this play for 1 reason. No, not RB Wilson's speed. When camp started, Haskins was going to dump off early. After a few deep balls, he seemed to not even look at dump off. This shows him look deep, step up in pocket, still doesn't like it, hits dump off. Growth. pic.twitter.com/tYcIBxo6jz

Says LBJon Bostic has been “super” thus far through five days of camp. #SkinsCamp
— Ryan Fowler (@FowlerRyan1) July 31, 2019
With 2018 behind him, #Redskins S Montae Nicholson is blocking out all distractions. I thought he was done after his arrest. Especially after the team cut DJ Swearinger for challenging coaches publically. They stuck by Montae and we can only hope he returns to his 2017 form. pic.twitter.com/Wrx4x7E9wr
— Ed Sheahin (@NFLPhotoGuy) July 30, 2019
I cringed reading that. The People’s Corner is perfect, imo.

Good morning. Looking at Donald Penn's arrival and chatted with Geron Christian as the Redskins start figuring out what's the left tackle plan. https://t.co/ZCoeeJKZk3

Practice starts in 35 mins. Cam Sims and Jimmy Moreland are both already out here getting loose, going through some individual footwork stuff on the field. It’s Day 6, it’s f’ing hot and they’re still grinding early

How to describe Cole Holcomb’s pass coverage? Suffocating. Again, he’s picking up things quickly, learning from when he gets beat. Was stride for stride with JP Holtz and ripped pass from him #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) July 31, 2019
McKinzy has been making standout plays from what I can tell at camp. Hopefully just cramps. https://t.co/YBNR9lNoYX

Washington coach Jay Gruden was asked about Ryan Kerrigan never missing a game during his NFL career. Said Gruden: "You trying to jinx him?"

WRs coach Ike Hilliard with more praise for Trey Quinn:
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) July 31, 2019
"Trey's a good player, man. I've said it for a couple of months now. It's his job in the slot, he's going to dominate it. The world will see."
Official #Redskins Injury Report:
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) July 31, 2019
Adonis Alexander has a quad. Day to day. Was told earlier it’s the same one that kept him out of OTA’s. Been bothering him for a long time.
Sweat and Cassanova McKinzy have lower leg injured and are also day to day.
Reuben Foster is also out at walkthrough. He’s talking with Landon Collins and ILB coach Rob Ryan. #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) July 31, 2019
The highest single-game grade from the #Redskins offense in 2018 came from Brandon Scherff in week 5 against the Saints when he had a 90.4 overall grade.#HTTR pic.twitter.com/YcflhDTgoP

#Redskins injury updates from the day: Montez Sweat (lower leg) day to day. Cassanova McKinzy (lower leg) day to day. Adonis Alexander (quad) day to day.
— Kareem Copeland (@kareemcopeland) July 31, 2019
Dwayne Haskins and Alex Smith are dag on near attached at the hip when Haskins isn’t going through his reps. Constantly talking through what’s happening. This is exactly what you want to see in this situation. Josh Woodrum also getting some time in with Smith #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) July 31, 2019
Jonathan Allen does not appreciate that he has to lay off the quarterback during practices. Has given some version of “well block me then” to the o-line going back to OTAs. Finally simmered over today.
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) July 31, 2019
Haskins. Gun. Cam Sims lined up on wrong side. Haskins corrected him. Good to see. Bombs another one to Robert Davis with deion Harris in coverage. A little too deep.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 31, 2019
Camp thoughts: Redskins signing two tackles and a guard in recent days shows Flowers is a bust. Could see him cut during preseason. Not sure Wes Martin is ready at LG. Preseason will show. WR Stephen Sims is really impressive as this year's surprise. Defense is going to be tough.
— Rick Snider (@Snide_Remarks) July 31, 2019
Josh Doctson just made an absurd left handed, one handed catch in one on ones. Wasn’t clear whether he got both feet in but it was nasty. Walked right by me after it and under his breath I heard him say “Damn, he holding like a bitch”
— Pete Hailey (@PeteHaileyNBCS) July 31, 2019
Tre Boston texted me that he chose Carolina because they are "a playoff team. The defense was missing one piece, so why not help my brothers out and finish what we started." https://t.co/cxcBlIpaWs

NFL careers might actually be down a little bit in the 3 years since I wrote the debunking - not sure about that.
— Zachary Binney, PhD (@zbinney_NFLinj) July 31, 2019
But they DEFINITELY didn't crater by half and we definitely didn't see that in 2016.
PFR just tracked more borderline players in recent years. That's IT.
Well what do we have here? @nflcommish #Redskins https://t.co/h1u5MZvJ4k

Tyreek Hill just limped off the field with trainers after a hard hit from Bashaud Breeland on a pbu. Now in the medical tent having his right leg looked at. Hill was slow to get up after the hit, then gingerly walked off

Another update on #Bengals WR AJ Green: Following surgery, based on what they found cleaning out the ankle, he’s now expected to miss a few games, I’m told. Not ideal.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) July 30, 2019
Chiefs' WR Tyreek Hill bruised his quad and is expected to be fine.

The #Saints & star WR Michael Thomas have reached a blockbuster, 5 yr $100M extension. This contract makes Thomas the highest paid WR in NFL History. He’s also the first non-QB offensive player to sign a $100M contract. Agents @DavidMulugheta & Andrew Kessler negotiated the deal.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) July 31, 2019
Now seems like a good time to recount the WRs taken ahead of Michael Thomas in the 2016 NFL Draft:
— Jeff Duncan (@JeffDuncan_) July 31, 2019
15. Corey Coleman
21. Will Fuller
22. Josh Doctson
23. Laquon Treadwell
40. Sterling Shepard
47. Michael Thomas
He's not quite the first non-QB offensive player to sign a $100M+ contract, whether talking about total value or just extension value. Larry Fitzgerald signed one way back in 2011. https://t.co/NMA9qjgSqK
— Ian Whetstone (@IanWhetstone) July 31, 2019
Michael Thomas has averaged 107 catches, 1,262 yards and eight touchdowns per season over his first three years. His 321 catches are the most in NFL history by a receiver in his first three years.
— James Palmer (@JamesPalmerTV) July 31, 2019
Michael Thomas' 2018 might be the best season in #ReceptionPerception history.
— Matt Harmon (@MattHarmon_BYB) June 22, 2019
- 82.8% success rate vs. man coverage (No. 1 all-time)
- 89.3% success rate vs. zone (No. 5 all-time)
- 82.2% success rate vs. press (97th percentile)
