Brandon Copeland of the New York Jets has been suspended without pay for the first four games of the 2019 regular season for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances.
Copeland is eligible to participate in all preseason practices and games. He will be allowed to return to the Jets’ active roster on Monday, Oct. 7, following the team’s Week 5 game at Philadelphia.
Copeland joins tight end Chris Herndon on the suspended list for the first quarter of the season.
Signed as a free agent last season, Copeland had a career high 5 sacks. This adequate productivity led the Jets to bring him back for 2019. He has been in line to see a lot of snaps on defense.
Copeland’s modest productivity might make this a tad less impactful than losing a prominent edge would be for most teams. The Jets will still need to replace his snaps.
