News, updates and analysis regarding the Bengals’ third preseason game against the Giants.

We’re already halfway through the preseason, which means we’re two weeks away from real football!

Before we get there, the Bengals need to play the Giants in their preseason Week 3 matchup.

For the second week in a row, Cincinnati will take be facing off against a first-round quarterback drafted in the first round. Last Thursday it was Dwayne Haskins, this week it’s Daniel Jones. Many thought the Bengals would take Haskins with the 11th overall pick, but Haskins fell four more spots to Washington. Jones never made it to the Bengals pick, though many thought he should’ve.

Jones obviously isn’t the only rookie quarterback that will play in this game, as the Bengals will trot out fourth-round pick Ryan Finley to start the second half after Andy Dalton and the starters will play the entire first half, per head coach Zac Taylor. Finley’s ascension up the depth chart is the reason we may also see Jeff Driskel used at receiver and on special teams in this game as well.

The big storylines in this game pertain to the former Giants who know don the orange and black. Defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo brought over two of his former players from his one season as the Giants’ defensive backs coach. Cornerback B.W. Webb has established himself as the starting slot defender while defensive end Kerry Wynn proved his value as a pass rusher last week and is sure to be a contributor in the regular season. Both have looked like solid signings thus far.

Other former Giants playing in this game are none other than Bobby Hart and John Jerry; both of whom were a part of the 2017 team. Hart has not been remembered fondly by Giants fans after reportedly quitting on the team at the end of that season. Hart was released shortly after, as was Jerry, who couldn’t find work during all of 2018. Nearly two years later and both could potentially be starting together once more.

Expect to see Hart and the rest of the starters play more than they’ve previously played this month as the Bengals try to go above .500 for the preseason.
