37,686 fans pack FirstEnergy Stadium for the scrimmage.
The Orange & Brown Scrimmage was jam packed (for a scrimmage) on Saturday, as fans got to show off their excitement for their 2019 Cleveland Browns. Can you believe that we are less than a week away from the first preseason game?
Cleveland Browns Training Camp Report - Day 9 (8/3/19)
1. Welcome to FirstEnergy Stadium! As previously announced by head coach Freddie Kitchens, Saturday’s practice at the stadium would be structured like a regular training camp practice. Gone are the days when there used to be separate “Orange” vs. “Brown” teams, competing to score against each other.

2. Kareem Hunt Cleared: RB Kareem Hunt was cleared to return from the non-football injury list, and was dressed in full pads. From the sound of things, he didn’t really take part in any team drills today, but he should be worked in very soon. Here is the laundry list of players who did not practice did to them healing up:
RB Trayone Gray (NFI), RB Duke Johnson, WR Damion Ratley, CB Tavierre Thomas, CB Phillip Gaines, DE Olivier Vernon, DE Genard Avery, LB Adarius Taylor, TE Seth DeValve, TE Demetrius Harris, DT Brian Price, DE Chad Thomas, DT Sheldon Richardson are not participating today #Browns

3. Strong Work by Strong: I apologize for the corniness of that. WR Jaelen Strong had himself a good start to practice in tracking down long passes from QB Baker Mayfield. This first one was in 1-on-1 drills against CB Lenzy Pipkins. He made a diving out route catch a little bit later.

Then, during 11-on-11 drills, Mayfield scrambled to his right and found Strong streaking down the field. Had S Eric Murray turned around, he may have made a play on it, but Strong kept his concentration:

4. Kicker Update: Kicking in FirstEnergy Stadium is different than kicking at training camp, so this was a new test for Greg Joseph and Austin Seibert. However, the competition can be summarized by “different day, same results.” Joseph was 5-of-5 on his scripted field goals, while Seibert was just 3-of-5, missing both left and right of the goalposts.
Later in practice, during 11-on-11 drills, QB Baker Mayfield got the first-team offense in range for a 51-yard field goal, and Joseph drilled it with room to spare. When QB David Blough got the team in range for a 38-yard field goal to end practice, Seibert did make that one:

5. Mack Wilson Continues to Shine: A day after showing off his athleticism with a pick six, rookie LB Mack Wilson was at it again, batting down and also intercepting a pass from QB Drew Stanton. The pick came in 7-on-7 drills.
#Browns LB Mack Wilson intercepted his second pass in two days. Grabbed a deflected pass from Drew Stanton. Wilson also batted down a pass from Stanton in the team scrimmage earlier.

6. Lots of This from Beckham: We’ve read about how WR Odell Beckham is a terror on slant routes, and guess how QB Baker Mayfield’s first throw of the day in 11-on-11 drills went? Think about the versatility of the Browns’ offense, and trying to contain this:

7. Hollywood Higgins: Going up against LB Sione Takitaki, it’s hard to see the route run from this video clip, but QB Drew Stanton connected with WR Rashard Higgins for a 4-yard touchdown pass.

8. Two-Minute Touchdown: In the two-minute drills, QB Baker Mayfield found TE Pharaoh Brown for a 20-yard “game-winning” touchdown pass. Brown is getting significant work in due to injuries at tight end, and he’s taking advantage of the reps.

9. Autographs from the Stars: QB Baker Mayfield and GM John Dorsey made the rounds to sign autographs after practice. Here are the clips, courtesy of Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 the Fan.

10. Mass Attendance for a Scrimmage: It sounded like the whole lower bowl was filled for the scrimmage, which had an entry fee of $5. The Browns announced after practice that 37,686 fans had paid admission to get in. The net proceeds benefit the Cleveland Browns Foundation’s Get 2 School, Stay in the Game! Network – a statewide initiative working towards student success by making school attendance a priority for all communities. Additionally, all of the Browns’ net proceeds from sales at the training camp Pro Shop will benefit the Foundation, matching the process for transactions at FirstEnergy Stadium’s Pro Shop.
It was an AMAZING kick off for the #Get2School Network with Ohio students, families, educators AND...the @Browns!

11. Brownies: For some reason, WR Greg Little was on the sideline (as a non-football player). ... WR Jarvis Landry couldn’t haul in a catchable fourth down pass late in practice. ... TE David Njoku was on a pitch count today, but caught a nice high pass in the end zone. ... WR Derrick Willies was worked in for some first-team reps. ... K Phil Dawson addressed fans prior to the start of the scrimmage. ... OL Drew Forbes did well in one-on-one blocking drills. ... OL Eric Kush was next up as the first-team right guard. ... Oh no, no puppy pound today!
12. Next Up: The Browns are off on Sunday, and will be back in Berea on Monday. Practice starts a tad later at 10:30 AM and will run to 1:00 PM.
