Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll spoke to the media on Wednesday.

  • “I’m expecting everybody to play in this game.”
  • CJ Prosise, JD McKissic returned to practice Wednesday.
  • Lano Hill will make his preseason debut.
  • DK Metcalf had “minimal” surgery. They have no concern that he won’t return soon. They’re going week-to-week and there are no indications that it will be a long return. Carroll is concerned that Metcalf has missed valuable snaps and reps with this missed time.
  • Marquise Blair had back spasms on Sunday and didn’t return Wednesday. Day to day.
  • Poona Ford played some running back in high school and Pete Carroll won’t divulge if they’d use him on offense.
  • Shaquem Griffin hasn’t returned from a bruised knee yet.
  • Ugo Amadi is competing at both safety and the nickel spot.
  • Carroll is still adamant that he loves the way Rashaad Penny plays.
  • Jacob Martin is further ahead as an edge rusher than Barkevious Mingo at this point. He thinks both will be a factor in pass rush this season and they expect that to happen.
  • Jamar Taylor will start at nickel cornerback against the Chargers on Saturday.
  • Paxton Lynch won’t play this weekend. Geno Smith will.
  • Amid all the rookie injuries, he’s most frustrated that he hasn’t gotten to see L.J. Collier much yet. Collier is moving but is not quite ready to “load and change direction” on his injured ankle.
  • Poona is a unique player, says they should have played him more last season. He’s quick and he knows where the ball is going almost every snap. He reminds Carroll of Henry Thomas, a two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle who played with Carroll for the Vikings and Patriots.
  • Nazair Jones is having problems with his knee.
  • Amara Darboh is ready to return this week. “He needs this play time.”
  • Ethan Pocic has done a great job with the starters but Carroll is counting on Mike Iupati to come back soon.
  • Phil Haynes is running and doing some stuff but is not over the hump yet. Has really high hopes for Haynes and it’s gonna be close to coming down to the start of the season.
