Yet another quarterback is joining the Lions’ roster.
The Detroit Lions may not be done looking at reserve quarterbacks before the start of the 2019 regular season. As first reported by NFL insider Adam Caplan, the Lions are signing former NFL quarterback Luis Perez.

In eight games with the Birmingham Iron, Perez completed 52.3 percent of his passes for five touchdowns and six interceptions. Though those aren’t exactly eye-popping stats, his performance was good enough to earn him a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. However, he was waived after just a month on the roster.
So why are the Lions kicking the tires on Perez this late in the preseason? Well, it likely means they’ve seen enough of at least one of their three backup quarterbacks: David Fales, Tom Savage or Josh Johnson. Savage returned to practice on Monday, and, if he makes it through concussion protocol, he’s likely the backup in Week 1.
So that means either Johnson or Fales is likely on their way out. We’ll see when the Lions make the signing official.
If Perez can somehow impress in the very short amount of time between now and cut day on Saturday, there’s a chance he could land on the team’s practice squad.
