New York Jets safety Jamal Adams has dropped some subtle hints on social media since Monday night that he is frustrated with the team, and now we have a better idea of why. In an appearance on WFAN Sports Radio Tuesday afternoon, Adams said he was benched for a handful of plays by Jets coach Adam Gase in Monday’s 23-3 loss to the Cleveland Browns because he “anticipated wrong.” The disciplinary action came after he committed penalties — offsides and encroachment — on consecutive plays. Adams is clearly annoyed with Gase’s decision to pull him from the game. It seems likely that the benching was the reason he scrubbed all mentions of the Jets from his social media accounts at some point between Monday night and Tuesday morning, though he would not confirm or deny it. Adams is an emotional player who happens to be one of the best talents on the Jets’ roster, so he was probably embarrassed that he was reprimanded for making a couple of mistakes.
