Saints have freed up two roster spots
The Saints have placed WR Keith Kirkwood, who suffered a hamstring injury prior to the matchup with the Rams on IR. Kirwood was originally signed as a free agent and was moved from the practice squad last year to the 53 in week ten. He posted 13 receptions for 209 yards and two touchdowns in eight regular season games. This is likely a roster spot move because most hamstring injuries are not season ending. The Saints could be eyeing bring someone else in or possibly moving someone like Emmanuel Butler or Lil’Jordan Humphrey up from the practice squad.
Saints have placed WR Keith Kirkwood on injured reserve after he suffered a hamstring injury in pregame warmups Sunday. Kirkwood impressed as an undrafted rookie last year. Austin Carr should now play a more important role. Still no word on severity of Tre’Quan Smith ankle injury

Also DT Taylor Stallworth was released by the team according to his agent. Stallworth was also a UDFA who made the team last year. He played in 13 regular season games posting eight tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery, and had five stops in the postseason. This one is also curious. Perhaps it means Sheldon Rankins will be back sooner than later. we do have a lot of depth at the position. Taylor would be eligible for the practice squad in the unlikely event he clears waivers.

The Saints are reported to be resigning QB J.T. Barrett to the practice squad. As Drew Brees is scheduled to have surgery Wednesday morning, this move comes as no surprise. Barrett who spent last season on the practice squad and most of the offseason with the Saints, is already familiar with the playbook.
