Garbage time saved the day.
Every week I think this team hits rock bottom, and every week I find out that rock bottom is even lower than I expected. A new low floor was reached in Week 7, when the Falcons got absolutely mauled by the visiting Los Angeles Rams. They were brutalized in all three phases of the game.
There really isn’t too much more to say about this game. The Falcons got bullied, just as they have been all season. October isn’t even behind us and it’s already a lost season.

This article will look at things strictly from a fantasy football perspective (that means looking at nothing other than purely statistics). Here are Atlanta’s fantasy stud and fantasy dud from Week 7’s defeat against the Los Angeles Rams.

Fantasy Stud - Austin Hooper
Stat Line - 4 catches, 46 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown: 10.6 standard league points, 14.6 PPR points
Hooper was the beneficiary of some good old fashioned garbage time — one of the the foundations of fantasy football.
He struggled just as much as everyone else on offense not named Julio, but racked up 27 receiving yards and Atlanta’s lone touchdown on Matt Schaub’s lone drive, against the Rams’ backups and prevent defense. In fantasy, however, it doesn’t matter what the circumstances are behind your numbers.
Great fantasy performers are able to salvage their point total even when they struggle throughout most of the game. Hooper ended up racking up double digit points, which is a healthy total for a tight end.
Austin Hooper is the No. 1 fantasy TE in football after seven weeks. He’s recorded double digit PPR points in every game but one this season, and is proving to be a golden late round/waiver wire investment for those who made it before the season started. He’s become a must-start in all formats.
Dud
Matt Ryan - 159 passing yards, 0 passing touchdowns, 1 interception, 1 lost fumble, 1 carry, 2 rushing yards: 2.56 standard league/PPR points
I’m not blaming Matt Ryan for this loss. I’m not even blaming Matt Ryan for the team’s inability to score points — he was picking himself up off the Mercedes-Benz Stadium turf throughout most of the afternoon because of his team’s inability to protect him.
However, as I mentioned, fantasy football looks at just cold hard statistics while disregarding the circumstances. The numbers dictate that Ryan was among the worst fantasy QBs in Week 7.
For the first time this season, Ryan failed to reach the 300-yard mark; he couldn’t make up for it with touchdowns either, as he was held scoreless for the first time as well.
To make matters worse, Ryan also turned the ball over twice, and left the game with an ankle injury. He was unable to return, finishing his day with less than three points.
Sometimes a player just has an unfortunate fantasy day, and that was the case for Ryan today. He now runs the risk of missing the third game of his career next week.
