The Falcons are a little broken
The Falcons have a pivotal game against the Texans looming, and they are...not exactly healthy.
On Thursday, the Falcons had four players who did not practice. Damontae Kazee’s illness will hopefully not carry over into the weekend, but Jamon Brown, Kenjon Barner, and Blidi Wreh-Wilson seem decidedly less certain. Oh, and Alex Mack, Wes Schweitzer, and Kaleb McGary were all limited, too.
None of that is good.
Thursday Falcons injury report
— Jason Butt (@JasonHButt) October 3, 2019
LIMITED: Alex Mack (elbow), Wes Schweitzer (shoulder), Kaleb McGary (knee), Grady Jarrett (elbow)
DID NOT PARTICIPATE: Damontae Kazee (illness), Blidi Wreh-Wilson (groin), Kenjon Barner (knee), Jamon Brown (concussion)
Ultimately, I’m most concerned about Mack and Brown. Having Barner out hurts a bit on returns, but Kendall Sheffield and Mohamed Sanu can hold down the kick and punt returner jobs for another week just fine. Without Mack and Brown, the Falcons are going to have to dig deep in their offensive line depth just to get by, which likely means Schweitzer at center (which is not ideal but is survivable) and either Ty Sambrailo, Matt Gono, or John Wetzel at right guard (please Gono). The offensive line has taken a beating thus far, and that’s not the situation Atlanta wants with Houston’s ferocious defensive line looming.
There’s one day left for Brown and Mack to get full participants, and we’ll hope for that. Chances are you should buckle up for a little offensive line adventure on Sunday.
