Los Angeles Chargers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers open thread

NFL: Los Angeles Chargers at Pittsburgh Steelers Philip G. Pavely-USA TODAY Sports

Tonight, the Los Angeles Chargers host the Pittsburgh Steelers, though it will hardly feel like a home game with a majority of the fans in the stadium rooting for the away team. Philip Rivers and the Bolts offense will have to contend with a very stout Steelers defense, but on the other side of the ball, Los Angeles should actually have the advantage. Gus Bradley’s defense is one of the National Football League’s worst. That is in part because of injuries, but it is also due to some of Bradley’s choices. Luckily, the Steelers offense is absolutely ravaged by injuries.

Pittsburgh was always going to be less dynamic than they were in the past thanks to trading away Antonio Brown and allowing Le’Veon Bell to walk away in free agency, but they still looked like an above average offense coming into the season. That changed when Ben Roethlisberger was lost to injury. They still appeared as though they could be competent, though, until they also lose backup quarterback Mason Rudolph, their #2 receiver in James Washington, and their most dynamic running back in Jaylen Samuels. Thanks to that situation, they will be the James Conner, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Devlin Hodges show.

If the Chargers can’t find a way to win at home against that collection of talent, they are in real trouble. That said, they should have no problem finding a way to win against that collection of talent.
